Cold Galvanizing VS Hot Dip Galvanizing of Chain Link Fence

There are two kinds of galvanizing chain link fences: cold galvanizing chain link fence and hot dip galvanizing chain link fence. The differences between them are:

Hot dip galvanizing processing is that dip in molten zinc. However, its speed of production and coating thickness is not uniform. Minimum allowable thickness on the market is 45–300 microns. Hot dip galvanizing chain link fence is putting it in liquid zinc in a high temperature heating way. Under the effect of high temperature and catalyst, there will be a series of chemical reactions which finally makes the surface of chain link fence coated by zinc. Through hot dip galvanizing, chain link fence will have bright and beautiful appearance and strong corrosion resistance.

Cold galvanizing processing is that directly place the workpiece in the zinc solution, and then using the principle of electrolyte to make zinc fully stick to the surface of chain link fence. The zinc layer on the surface of cold galvanizing chain link fence is thinner than hot dip galvanizing chain link fence. However, it is easy to rust after a long time using.

Both cold galvanizing chain link fence and hot dip galvanizing chain link fence are in silvery white. Nevertheless, the fact is that the color of cold galvanizing chain link fence is brighter than hot dip galvanizing one. Distinguish according to product characteristics, hot dip galvanizing chain link fence has poorer corrosive performance and it can generally be used 5–7 months before rust appears on the surface. While, hot dip galvanizing chain link fence can be used 10 years without rusting. At the same time, hot dip galvanizing chain link fence costs a little more than cold galvanizing chain link fence.

In addition, galvanizing chain link fence made of various raw materials has different anti-corrosion life, for example, the high zinc content may result in high natural corrosion resistance.

The advantages of hot dip galvanizing chain link fence:

  • Low processing cost: Hot dip galvanizing chain link fence costs less than other lacquer coating.
  • Good reliability: Between Zinc coating layer and steel, there is metallurgical bond, which becomes a part of the steel surface. Thus, the durability of its coating is more reliable.
  • Strong toughness: A special metallurgical structure, which can bear the mechanical damage during delivery and use, is formed on the zinc coating layer.
  • Comprehensive protection: Each part of the chain link fence can be coated with zinc, even in the depression, sharp corners and hidden parts can be fully protected.
  • Save time and effort: This zinc coating process is faster than other coating methods, and it can avoid wasting time to varnish on the construction site after installation.

Stainless steel galvanized chain link fence is a kind of metal mesh which is made of a variety of stainless steel wire, such as SS 201, SS 304, SS 316, SS 316L, 310S and so forth. It has the advantages of strong corrosion performance and long service life. Actually, whether the chain link fence will rust or not is determined by the quality of the material. Sometimes, stainless steel galvanized chain link fence made of high-quality materials may have discoloration or darkness. It is not rust, but the oxidation which can wipe with cloth or other things. Stainless steel galvanized chain link fence made of materials of poor quality may cost less than other materials, but it is easy to rust, affecting its performance. Hence, it is better for users to buy high-quality chain link fences.
